Under/Over the sea disco

Mia's kindy held a sea themed disco last night.  The kids chose what they wanted to go as several weeks ago - Mia chose mermaid (as did most girls at kindy) and Casey a fish.  They chose their own fabrics and with a basic idea in mind and a budget of $20 this is what I came up with
Caseys fish costume was made from yellow poplin and blue fish patterned cotton.  I modelled it off one of his hooded towels so it was easy to get on and didnt impede him playing.  Gotta love that cute fish face!

Mia chose pink and gold sequins which were awful to sew but what mermaid is complete without a bit of spangle?  The skirt is just a tube with elastic waist and a ruffle of organza at the bottom for the tail fin.  The bra top is also a tube with ruched centre and ribbon halter strap. To top it off - a pretty detachable flower and copious amounts of pearls.  I drew the line at letting her go bare belly, my mermaid is sweet not saucy.

Happy day xxx
